The March issue of New Mobility magazine features a cover story on Cody Unser and her effort to help train disabled veterans to scuba dive with Operation Deep Down.

Cody Unser was only 12 when she was diagnosed with transverse myelitis which has left her paralyzed from the chest down. Unser is the granddaughter of race car driver Al Unser and daughter of Al Unser Jr.

When Cody was only 13, she started the Cody Unser First Step Foundation to raise awareness about transverse myelitis. Cody found freedom in the water because she wasn’t dependent on the wheelchair.

Cody decided to start a diving program for the military and help returning veterans learn to find that same freedom.
